Contract signed for geothermal drilling exploration in Wloclawek, Poland.

The City of Wloclawek in Poland's Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship has entered into an agreement with UOS Drilling for the drilling of the Wloclawek GT-1 geothermal exploration and appraisal well. Preparatory activities are anticipated to commence shortly, with a total project duration of 18 months.

The exploration well is set to reach a depth of 2700 meters at the Municipal Heat and Power Company (Miejskie Przedsiebiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej / MPEC). The objective is to confirm the existence of thermal waters in Wloclawek and to analyze these waters based on temperature, salinity, and mineral content.

Should the drilling and well testing yield favorable results, the city plans to drill a second well and build a geothermal heating plant. The ultimate goal is to diversify energy sources for heating and eliminate coal usage in the future.

Wloclawek was chosen as one of seven locations to receive funding for geothermal test drilling by Poland's Ministry of Climate and Environment in 2024, as reported by ThinkGeoEnergy. The funding from the "Sharing Thermal Waters in Poland" initiative will cover the entire cost of exploration drilling, with the city only responsible for VAT.

Robust governmental support for geothermal energy in Poland has led to increased drilling activities across the country, including recent contracts signed in Nysa and Szczecin. Additionally, in October 2025, Konin officially inaugurated the tenth geothermal heating plant in Poland.
