Bulgaria's AES Galabovo TPP increases production to 2.6 million MWh in 2025.
AES Bulgaria, a subsidiary of the U.S. energy company AES Corporation, announced that its thermal power plant AES Galabovo produced 2.62 million MWh of electricity in 2025, accounting for 7% of Bulgaria's domestic electricity consumption.
In 2024, AES Galabovo produced almost 1.93 million MWh.
In December, the lignite-fired power plant generated 256,000 MWh, also representing 7% of the nation's electricity usage, according to a press release from AES Bulgaria.
Additionally, AES Bulgaria is the majority owner and operator of the largest wind farm in the country, Sveti Nikola, located near Kavarna. This wind farm generated 284,369 MWh of renewable energy in 2025, with 36,081 MWh produced in December alone.
