DET boosts supply security contributions by over one-third.

Deutsche Energy Terminal GmbH (DET) has enhanced its contribution to supply security in 2025 compared to the last two years. The federally owned company delivered approximately one-third more natural gas to the German gas grid in 2025. Specifically, the three floating LNG terminals (FSRUs) supplied 79 TWh for industries, businesses, households, and gas storage facilities. In contrast, the annual figures for 2024 and 2023 were 59 TWh.

The increase in supplied energy can be attributed to improvements in the operation of the existing Wilhelmshaven 01 and Brunsbüttel terminals, as well as the launch of the third DET terminal, the FSRU Excelsior, at the Wilhelmshaven site. Statistically, 79 TWh of energy is equivalent to the annual gas consumption needed for heating over 5.6 million four-person households in apartment buildings (100 m² of living space with an annual consumption of 14,000 kWh).

The total annual figure of 79 TWh also includes the output during the Excelsior's commissioning phase from May 26 to August 28, 2025. The storage and regasification vessel officially began commercial operations on August 29, 2025. This year, the company is not only focused on maintaining its LNG regasification capacity but also on completing its FSRU terminal in Stade. With a utilization rate of around 65%, the three terminals—Wilhelmshaven 1 and 2, along with Brunsbüttel—performed over 10 percentage points better than the European average in 2025 and maintained the same level as in previous years for DET.
