Orrön Energy secures UK grid connections for 2.9GW projects.

Sweden’s Orrön Energy has secured grid connections for six significant projects in the UK, totaling an estimated capacity of 2.9GW, following the completion of the UK grid reform process.

These projects encompass three solar energy developments with a combined capacity of about 1.8GW and three data center initiatives contributing an additional 1.1GW, according to the publicly traded renewable energy firm.

Orrön Energy anticipates receiving binding grid offers and more details about connection timelines in the third quarter of 2026.

Currently, both land and grid access have been established for these initiatives, positioning them at the ready-to-permit stage.

The company plans to explore divestment options once the final grid connection agreements are secured.

In Germany, Orrön Energy has expanded its portfolio with municipal approval for three solar energy projects totaling around 250MW, one of which was part of a recent portfolio sale.

The company is also advancing a series of large-scale battery projects, having obtained land, and expects grid confirmation early this year.

Orrön Energy CEO Daniel Fitzgerald expressed satisfaction with the significant progress and outcomes from their greenfield projects in the UK and Germany. He noted that securing the Gate 2 grid connections in the UK allows them to resume discussions that were on hold due to the recently concluded grid reform.

He added that the German platform has reached a maturity level where project monetization is in progress. With an average sales price of about 55 TEUR per MW in 2025, coupled with the scale of their portfolio, he is confident this will yield substantial value moving forward.

Recently, Orrön Energy sold 310MW of projects for a total of €18m ($21m), contingent on reaching specific development milestones.

The company continues to develop further assets within its German platform and intends to evaluate ways to realize value from these ongoing developments.
