Slovakia will sign an agreement with the US for cooperation in nuclear energy.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico announced on Saturday that Slovakia will sign a nuclear power cooperation agreement with the United States next week, as the country progresses toward a deal to construct a new nuclear power unit with American assistance.
Currently, Slovakia operates five nuclear reactors across two plants and has been negotiating with Washington since last year to establish a large facility in partnership with the U.S. company Westinghouse. Fico mentioned that the planned plant will have a capacity of nearly 1,200 megawatts (MW), surpassing the output of existing units.
Fico expressed a desire to participate in the signing of a broader agreement on U.S.-Slovak nuclear cooperation in Washington on Friday but did not provide further details about the signing event. In October, the Slovak government approved an inter-governmental agreement with the U.S. for the construction of the new unit, and Fico revealed in December that U.S. President Donald Trump had invited him to the United States during this year's soccer World Cup to formalize the nuclear power deal between the two nations.
