Trina Storage has finalized its first significant battery agreement in Italy with Aer Soléir for a 250MW/1000MWh initiative in Rondissone, near Turin.
The companies indicated that the 1GWh project will rank among the largest battery energy storage developments in Italy and Europe, marking an important step in their partnership.
They noted that this initiative was selected through Italy's capacity market auction for deliveries in 2027, aiming to enhance grid reliability, minimize curtailment, and support national renewable energy objectives.
Philip King, the chief operating officer of Aer Soléir, expressed enthusiasm about the Rondissone BESS project reaching the key milestone of finalizing its supply agreement with Trina Storage.
He continued, stating that Rondissone signifies the first construction phase in their significant Italian portfolio, and they are eager to collaborate with valuable partners like Trina Storage.
Trina Storage will provide, transport, and install its Elementa 2 Pro system, which includes PCS units, medium-voltage skids, and a power plant controller, utilizing 228 battery cabinets and 36 integrated PCS and MV skid enclosures.
The company will also offer a 20-year service agreement that encompasses maintenance, spare parts, 24/7 remote support, extended warranties, and performance guarantees.
Gabriele Buccini, head of Trina Storage Europe, remarked that Italy presents one of the most promising opportunities for energy storage due to the interplay of the capacity market, the MACSE program, and the rapid expansion of renewable energy in the country.
Buccini added that this first 1 GWh project in Rondissone signifies the beginning of their long-term commitment to Italy.
Trina Storage mentioned that this agreement bolsters its expanding European portfolio, which now surpasses 4GWh of contracted projects.
