NTR and Almac strengthen Northern Ireland wind power purchase agreement.
NTR and the pharmaceutical company Almac Group have reached an agreement to boost the amount of clean energy supplied through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) from the Murley wind farm, which has six turbines located in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

According to NTR, the Murley wind farm started operations in 2024 under a contract that covered nearly 50% of its output, while the new deal increases Almac’s contracted share to just under 70%.

Almac noted that the added renewable energy will help reduce carbon emissions from the electricity used at its headquarters in Craigavon, which currently employs over 4,000 of the company’s 7,800 global staff.

“This is a great example of partners growing together, where we can meet Almac’s need for more clean power from a local source as they expand their operations,” remarked Francisco Del Rio, head of power sales Europe at NTR.

He continued: “In our various markets throughout Europe, we are increasingly collaborating with partners on customized PPAs tailored to their needs, whether those are related to location or the requirement to adapt power supply to their load. This type of flexibility sets NTR apart.”

“We are pleased to increase our clean power supply, enabling us to continue powering nearly all operations at our Craigavon site as it grows, with fully certified renewable energy,” stated Niall Harkin, executive director of Almac Group.

He expressed, “Almac’s involvement in this project is a vital step towards our net-zero goal and significantly reduces carbon emissions from our electricity usage.

“As a leading global provider of diverse services and support throughout the drug development lifecycle, it's essential for us to uphold our commitment to the long-term sustainability aims of the industry. I am greatly encouraged by the advancements we are making in our climate journey.”
