CATL and BMW will enhance their collaboration on battery data.

CATL has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the BMW Group in Beijing to enhance collaboration on pilot projects focused on 'trusted data exchange and decarbonization throughout the power battery supply chain.' CATL stated that this move elevates the partnership in sustainable development and technological innovation.

The agreement was finalized during the recent visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to China, accompanied by a prominent German business delegation.

According to the MoU, CATL and BMW Group will work together on pilot projects related to cross-border data transfer in the context of the 'Battery Passport' scenario. This collaboration aims to deepen efforts in trusted data exchange, carbon accounting methods, and innovative tools for assessing battery carbon footprints.

Utilizing the standardized trusted automotive data ecosystem Catena-X, the pilot projects are intended to assist in aligning technical standards, promote coherent and scientifically driven policy frameworks, and ensure long-term industrial stability.

CATL and BMW have been in a strategic partnership since 2012, collaborating on battery production, joint R&D, and sustainable supply chains. The new MoU broadens the partnership from product-level cooperation to more extensive institutional coordination, solidifying a mutual commitment to advancing electric mobility.

By investigating trusted data exchange and standardizing carbon accounting methods, both companies seek to enhance trust through transparency and contribute to a more resilient global automotive ecosystem.

CATL aims to continue fostering open cooperation with international partners, utilizing technological innovation to drive the global green transition and create a sustainable future for the automotive industry worldwide.
