CIP and Hy2Gen have canceled their renewable ammonia project in Norway.
Danish renewable energy developer Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and German hydrogen firm Hy2Gen have terminated a 240MW renewable hydrogen and ammonia initiative in Norway.

The Iverson eFuels project, intended for Sauda in southwest Norway, lost its access to the grid. In late 2025, the Norwegian power system operator Statnett decided to retract a previously assigned 270MW of electricity capacity due to the project's development being over two years behind schedule, according to Iverson.

When the Iverson project was announced in 2022, the companies anticipated starting construction in 2024 and beginning operations in 2027, aiming for a production of 200,000 tons per year of renewable ammonia.

Statnett indicated that new capacity might only be available after grid upgrades, projected for 2033-2035. Iverson stated that "such an uncertain situation" regarding grid capacity "is not compatible with further development of the project."

The project partners will explore the potential for developing a data center at the Sauda site "to ensure that the efforts and resources invested in the Iverson project can be repurposed for new activities."
