Poland's Enea intends to develop 1.4 GW of battery energy storage systems and 300 MW of solar projects.
Poland's state-owned utility Enea intends to develop energy storage systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 1.4 GW and photovoltaic (PV) projects amounting to 300 MW over the next 30 months, according to deputy CEO Bartosz Krysta in a social media announcement.

Krysta emphasized that the company's objective is to enhance energy security while also fostering development opportunities for Polish firms, contributing to "a modern value chain surrounding the energy of the future."

The investment initiative is estimated to be worth approximately PLN 2 billion (USD 0.544 million/EUR 469 million), Krysta mentioned during a press conference reported by local media. For energy storage, the group plans to rely on existing projects, with some expected to be implemented by 2027 and others by early 2028.

A tender has been initiated for the acquisition of six storage facilities totaling around 600 MWh, Krysta reported, adding that between March and April, the group will conduct a procedure for the 200-MW storage project in Polniec and the 232-MW project in Kozienice.

Furthermore, the program includes 24 medium-voltage projects with a combined capacity of 242 MW, along with approximately 124 MW of hybrid storage capacity to be developed alongside PV installations. Each of the PV projects in the program will include a storage facility.
