Audi has broadened its partnership with SAIC Motor to develop future vehicle models under their jointly owned Audi brand in China, with plans for four new models.
The companies have entered into an agreement focused on the collaborative development of vehicles utilizing the next-generation advanced digitized platform.
This initiative also encompasses cooperation throughout the entire value chain, including research and development.
A specialized Audi Innovation & Technology Centre will be established in Shanghai, led by Audi in collaboration with SAIC.
The center will concentrate on intelligent electrification specific to China and the comprehensive development of intelligent connected vehicles.
It will feature AI-enabled "smart cabins" and advanced driver assistance systems designed for local consumers.
This initiative builds on the Audi brand that was launched in 2024.
Audi CEO Gernot Döllner stated: “After the successful introduction of Audi and its inaugural model, we are prepared to advance further: establishing a dedicated Innovation and Technology Centre in partnership with our trusted ally SAIC to enhance our presence in China.”
The first model, the Audi E5 Sportback, was unveiled in 2025, with the anticipated launch of the Audi E7X SUV at Auto China 2026.
A third model is slated for release in 2027.
Audi indicated that this agreement aims to expedite the growth of its AUDI-branded offerings in China and bolster its standing in the premium intelligent connected vehicle sector.
SAIC Motor president Jia Jianxu remarked: “The successes of the last two years with Audi strongly illustrate the strength of our collaboration. We are eager to progress together, building on this foundation to pursue innovation and leadership in the premium electric vehicle market.”
Audi Sport introduced the RS 5 in February as its inaugural high-performance plug-in hybrid model.
This vehicle produces 470kW through a system that combines a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine, an electric motor, an eight-speed hybrid transmission, and a rear transaxle, marking the introduction of an electrified drivetrain in the RS production lineup.
