Portland Port in the UK has formally received authorization to conduct ship-to-ship (STS) transfers of liquefied natural gas (LNG), expanding its current services that include oil and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) transfers.
Located in South Dorset, the port can execute STS operations at a berth or while anchored in either the inner or outer harbor.
This achievement coincides with Portland Port's celebration of its 30th anniversary this year. Prior to its commercial operations that began in 1996, the port functioned as a naval base.
“Our new STS license enables us to facilitate LNG transfers directly at our port. This will minimize transit times and enhance efficiency for the LNG supply chain, while offering access to a fully compliant and skilled marine infrastructure,” stated Ian McQuade, Commercial Director of Portland Port.
“With our strategic position 20 miles north of the English Channel shipping lanes and our solid track record in licensed and compliant STS transfer operations, we aim to collaborate closely with customers to meet their commercial and operational goals.”
