BMW and Solarwatt are launching a vehicle-to-home solution.
The German car manufacturer BMW has broadened its partnership with Solarwatt, a provider of solar energy solutions, allowing electric vehicles (EVs) to serve as extra storage units at home.

On Monday, BMW announced the upcoming launch of its first models in the Neue Klasse, the BMW iX3 and BMW i3, featuring bidirectional charging technology. With Solarwatt’s home energy management system, these vehicles can be connected to a network that includes photovoltaic systems, home batteries, and household devices.

This integration is made possible by BMW’s bidirectional technology, which enables the vehicles to be charged and to supply energy back to the home when necessary.

BMW and Solarwatt aim to roll out their vehicle-to-home solution by the end of 2026 in Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands.

This follows the introduction of a vehicle-to-grid solution that has been available since March 2026.

BMW and Solarwatt have been collaborating in the field of electromobility since 2013. In 2021, the two companies launched a home storage system featuring a battery module that utilizes components also found in BMW’s electric vehicles.
