Arverne and Banque des Territoires establish a new organization to promote geothermal projects in France.
The Arverne Group and the public financial institution Banque des Territoires have announced the establishment of Francilienne de Geothermie, a new organization focused on the development, financing, and management of geothermal projects in the Île-de-France region of France. This entity seeks to invest in geothermal projects throughout the region, enabling it to assist in all stages, including development, construction, financing, operation, and maintenance of the facilities.

Francilienne de Géothermie is primarily owned by Arverne Chaleur & Froid with a 72% stake, while Banque des Territoires holds 28%. The partners have pledged to raise as much as €45.1 million in equity to support the development of five projects, contributing to the energy transition efforts in the Île-de-France area.

“With Francilienne de Géothermie, Arverne and Banque des Territoires are merging industrial knowledge and investment capabilities to enhance geothermal energy as a crucial component of the energy transition in the Île-de-France region, providing a discreet, continuous, and economical solution,” stated Gregory Van Den Perre, Director of Arverne Chaleur & Froid.

Arverne brings a wealth of expertise in developing and managing geothermal heating and cooling projects, as well as in drilling and construction services. Additionally, through its subsidiary Lithium de France, Arverne is engaged in an innovative project focused on geothermal energy and lithium extraction in the Alsace region.

“Banque des Territoires welcomes the formation of Francilienne de Géothermie alongside the Arverne group, which enhances our efforts and funding aimed at fostering geothermal development in the Île-de-France region. We have remarkable subsurface resources, particularly the Dogger aquifer, which enables us to distribute extracted heat through networks to warm cities and neighborhoods in the Île-de-France area. This energy source is not only environmentally friendly but also local, ensuring users benefit from stable and competitive pricing over the long term,” remarked Marie-Laure Gadrat, Regional Director for the Île-de-France region at Banque des Territoires.

During the 2025 French Geothermal Days, then-Finance Minister François Bayrou urged banks to support the installation of geothermal systems, specifically mentioning geothermal heat pumps. A report from the French Court of Auditors released earlier this year also suggested that enhancing financial support would accelerate the implementation of deep geothermal projects, aiming to commission up to 10 geothermal doublets annually.
