The EU Commission believes Europe can reduce gas consumption by 15 bcm this year.
The European Commission believes that Europe can cut natural gas use by 15 billion cubic meters this year, according to Ruud Kempener, the deputy head of the energy security and safety unit at DG Energy, who spoke on Wednesday.

At the Flame energy conference in Amsterdam, Kempener noted that European nations are better equipped to handle disruptions caused by the Iran war, as they already have regulations in place that allow them to respond effectively, following the energy crisis initiated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Kempener mentioned that with these regulations established, the Commission is collaborating with member states to identify measures that could decrease the demand for gas, oil, and oil products. He also indicated that Brussels estimates member states can achieve a reduction of about 15 billion cubic meters of gas consumption through enhanced energy efficiency, though he did not provide further details.
