Agreement to provide solar energy for IONITY's electric vehicle charging stations in Germany.
Charging point operator IONITY has entered into a long-term agreement with renewable energy supplier Tion Renewables GmbH to acquire solar power for its high power charging (HPC) locations in Germany.

On Wednesday, Tion, based in Germany, announced it will deliver customized renewable energy solutions to address the network's increasing charging needs. Power provision is set to start in 2027, with electricity sourced from Tion's photovoltaic (PV) farms.

This collaboration is expected to enhance IONITY’s long-term access to clean energy as electric mobility expands throughout Europe. Michael Garding, head of energy management at IONITY, stated, “Together with Tion, we are securing renewable electricity at scale to operate our European charging network and driving the shift to climate-friendly mobility.”

Established in 2017, IONITY is a joint initiative of several major automotive companies, including BMW Group, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen Group, and BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure Platform. The firm operates over 6,000 charging stations across 24 countries, exclusively powered by electricity from wind, solar, and hydropower sources.
