Blue Elephant initiates a 268-MWp solar project supported by Deutsche Bahn.
Blue Elephant Energy GmbH, a German operator of solar and wind farms, has begun the construction of a 268-MWp solar park that will supply power to Deutsche Bahn AG.

The Schafhofen facility, which is expected to become one of Germany's largest solar farms, is planned to be operational by September 2027, as announced by Blue Elephant.

Located in the municipality of Motzing within the Regensburg district, the photovoltaic farm will span approximately 200 hectares (494.2 acres) and is projected to produce around 296 GWh annually. This energy output will meet the electricity needs of roughly 147,000 households and will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 200,000 tonnes.

DB Energie, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, will be the primary purchaser of the power under a long-term agreement established in 2025.

Financing for the project is provided by the German bank Commerzbank. Goldbeck Solar is responsible for the installation, while Bayernwerk will construct the substation and manage the grid connection. The statement mentioned that the installation of the PV modules, technical infrastructure, and grid connection will proceed in phases.
