RWE Will Conduct a Pre-Installation Survey at the Vanguard West Site

RWE Will Conduct a Pre-Installation Survey at the Vanguard West Site
A pre-installation survey is about to commence at RWE’s 1.4 GW Vanguard West offshore wind site in the UK.

The developer has announced, via a Notice to Mariners, that the survey vessel Breaker is anticipated to start operations around June 15, focusing on a pre-installation survey in the project's designated area.

The survey is projected to last about a month, with the vessel working continuously from the Port of Den Helder.

RWE obtained Contracts for Difference (CfD) for two out of its three Norfolk projects, Vanguard West and Vanguard East, during the UK government’s seventh CfD round (AR7) in January this year.

After receiving the CfD, the company indicated plans to collaborate with global investor KKR on the projects and aims to reach a final investment decision (FID) by summer 2026.

In February and March, RWE confirmed orders with Vestas for V236-15.0 MW wind turbines for both Norfolk Vanguard offshore wind farms.

In May, Lamprell announced it had begun manufacturing transition pieces for the two offshore wind projects following an agreement with RWE made in 2024.

Situated 50 to 80 kilometers off the Norfolk coast, the two offshore wind farms are each designed for an installed capacity of 1,380 MW and are expected to be operational in 2029 (Vanguard West) and 2030 (Vanguard East).
