Good Energy has finalized its most substantial energy supply agreement in 26 years, securing power from Ørsted's Walney 1 and Walney 2 offshore wind farms.
The two-year Power Purchase Agreement will grant the renewable energy provider 200GWh of electricity generated in the UK each year from October 2026 to October 2028.
This amount constitutes approximately one-sixth of the total output from the wind farms. The overall 400GWh from the contract could potentially power over 74,000 homes in the UK annually, based on average household usage.
Good Energy indicated that this agreement would provide the necessary scale and certainty to accommodate its expanding customer base as the demand for renewable energy rises.
This arrangement builds on a 2023 contract in which the company procures 110GWh annually from Ørsted's Hornsea 1 offshore wind farm.
Traditionally, Good Energy has relied on a decentralized network of over 3,300 independent renewable generators. It is now integrating that approach with larger, longer-term contracts to secure higher volumes at competitive prices.
The company noted that this strategy would benefit both residential customers and energy-intensive operations that need reliable electricity supplies.
Data centers are anticipated to play a significant role in this market as concerns about their energy consumption increase. Good Energy is already collaborating with Stellium Datacenters at a major campus near Newcastle, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 75%.
