Bulgaria to cooperate with Gazprom on South Stream Project execution

The South Stream gas pipeline remains a project of strategic importance for Bulgaria, as the pipeline is intended to bring Siberian gas to Europe under the Black Sea. The project is set to be the main pipeline to southern Europe, as the competing Nabucco pipeline project, that was privileged by the European Union, failed at the tender stage. South Stream is expected to transport about 63 billion cubic meters of gas.

Poland rethinks its strategy for shale gas production

Doubts over the scale of Poland's shale gas reserves surfaced last June after ExxonMobil announced plans to cease exploration, citing disappointing test drilling results. The withdrawal of two more multinationals - Talisman Energy of Canada and U.S. oil giant Marathon - has cast significant doubts over the viability of shale gas in Poland.

Germany will stop subsidizing solar energy by 2018

Environment Minister Peter Altmaier has announced on Monday that the 52GW limit set by the government would be reached in the period 2017-2018, after what Germany will stop subsidizing solar power. Altmaier had struggled to set a maximum amount of solar power capacity above which the government would no longer offer its financial support.

France: EDF envisages a 5% increase in power tariffs in August

The French government has allowed French state-controlled power utility Electricite de France (EDF) to increase its electricity tariffs for residential consumers by 5% in August, and by the same share in August next year, citing recent increases of the company's production costs.
