The new shale gas allowance will help the UK to cut its reliance on imported gas making the nation energy independent and helping also to reduce gas emissions. According to some studies, shale gas is the only way to counterbalance the effects of the growing reliance on imports.

According to IHS IMS in 2013 Japan will grow by 120 % and will install over five GW of PV systems overtaking Italy, Germany and the USA in the installation of photovoltaic (PV) capacity. Installations are probable to surpass 1 GW in the first quarter of 2013, causing it to become the second largest market of the year.

France-based multinational oil and gas company Total, has decided to sell a 25 % stake in the Tempa Rossa oil field, which is situated in the Basilicata region of southern Italy, to Mitsui E&P Italia. Total, which has discovered the Tempa Rossa oil field in 1989, and has operated the concession since 2002, will remain operator of Tempa Rossa with a 50% stake.
