Dong Energy to double the size of Walney wind farm

Danish-based developer Dong Energy confirmed plans to more than double the size of the Walney wind farm off the coast of Cumbria. A planning application is due to be submitted in May and, if accepted by the Planning Inspectorate, the 144sq km extension could be in operation by March 2018.

OPEC to revise its oil demand forecast downward in 2013

Global oil demand growth could be revised slightly downward of forecasts in 2013, according to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), dragged down by economic uncertainty in the euro zone and United States, as well as U.S. supply will hit its highest level in three decades, slashing the need for oil from the 12-member producer group.

In 2012 CO2 levels second highest in 54 years

In 2012, concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere increased by the second highest amount since 1959, when modern monitoring began. According to Pieter Tans, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration scientist who leads the effort to track CO2 levels, carbon dioxide levels augmented by 2.67 parts per million in comparison to a year before, to total something like 395 parts per million.

Daily: UK gas remains high on extreme cold weather in Europe

Brent crude oil futures slipped on Tuesday after having fluctuated alongside euro and dollar and as OPEC has cut its forecast for U.S. and euro zone economic growth also added some pressure. Meanwhile, Brent for April delivery shed 57 cents, or 0.52 percent, to settle at $109.65 a barrel, having traded from $109.30 to $111.20.
