Germany to curb green energy supports

In reply to the European economic recession, the German government is approving cuts to programs supporting the development of renewable energy projects. Germany intends to fix a cap of subsidies and compensations it has created for green energy that had the unplanned effect of driving up household electricity bills.

Daily: Brent and U.S. crude futures settle higher on firmer gasoline

Brent and U.S. crude oil futures jumped on Thursday as U.S. gasoline futures edged up more than 2 percent, driving the oil futures complex higher and equilibrating any pressure from fresh worries about the euro zone economy. Meanwhile, Brent April crude climbed 12 cents, or 0.10 percent, to settle at $118, having traded from $117.25 to $118.29. U.S. March crude boosted 30 cents, or 0.31 percent, to settle at $97.31 a barrel, having traded from $96.77 to $97.71.

Daily: Brent crude settles higher on March contract expiration

Brent crude oil futures increased 6 cents in choppy trading on Wednesday as the front-month March contract expired at the end of the session. Meanwhile, Brent March crude boosted 6 cents, or 0.05 percent, to settle at $118.72 a barrel, having traded from $118.39 and $119.12. Brent April crude added 13 cents to settle at $117.88 a barrel.

EDF Energies Nouvelles to acquire the wind energy portfolio of Séchilienne Sidec in France

EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN) has bought the wind energy portfolio for a total of 56.5MW from the independent energy producer Séchilienne-Sidec. The deal is part of Sechilienne- Sidec’s drive to focus on biomass and solar power generation. The achievement is part of EDF's goal to further develop its business while consolidating its presence in France.

Tri-lateral contract on TAP between Italy, Albania and Greece

The governments of Greece, Albania and Italy have signed a trilateral agreement to build a Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) for Europe, as part of efforts to expand the region’s natural gas supply away from Russian dependence.
