According to the Spanish grid operator Red Electrica de Espana, Spain’s monthly wind-power production surpassed 6 terawatt-hours, while in the last three months wind farms produced more electricity than any other power source in Spain for the first time ever.

Daily: UK prompt gas settles up on undersupplied system, higher heating demand
Brent and U.S crude oil futures dropped by about 1 percent on Monday, falling alongside equities on Wall Street as traders locked in profits after three weeks of gains that increased oil prices by about 10 percent since the beginning of December.

UK: Centrica abandons plans to build new nuclear power plants
Centrica has announced that it intends to abandon plans to build new nuclear power stations in the UK because of the rising costs following changes to regulations after the Fukushima disaster in 2011. Centrica had been planning to build four plants with the French supplier EDF, but has now pulled out of the partnership.

Norway to increase the hydro energy share in electricity generation by 2020
Norway, already the greatest producer of hydropower, which is getting the largest share of its electricity from hydropower- a full 95 percent, is planning to soar its annual production by 12% by 2020 following the country’s efforts to meet EU goals for higher energy output.
