Ed Davey, Energy Secretary, has announced that exploration works could now continue in the county, allowing Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. to resume operations in Lancashire, which was halted in 2011 when the test-drilling caused two minor earthquakes in northwest England.

Brent and U.S. crude oil futures climbed more than 1 percent on Wednesday, pushed up by U.S. Federal Reserve plans for more monetary incentives and a Texas refinery fire that sent U.S. refined products futures higher. Meanwhile, Brent January crude climbed $1.49, or 1.38 percent, to settle at $109.50 a barrel, having traded from $108.14 to $110.50. U.S. January crude boosted 98 cents, or 1.14 percent, to settle at $86.77 a barrel, having traded from $85.68 to $87.68.

According to the Solar Energy Industries Association, about 684 MW of solar PV capacity was installed in the third quarter of 2012, up 44% in comparison to the same period of 2011. In the first 10 months of 2012 solar alone increased by 133%, with total U.S. solar PV power capacity amounting now over 5900 MW, with 1.2 gigawatts of solar photovoltaics installed, bringing 2012 installations to 3.2 gigawatts, enough to supply with power about 1 million households.

China has boosted subsidies for its solar industry by 7 billion yuan ($1.1 billion) in 2012 to a total of 13 billion yuan, the government said on Wednesday, move aimed to help manufacturers crippled by excess capacity and fading foreign demand.
