Russian oil output hits post-Soviet record

Russia's oil output, the world's largest, edged up 0.4% in November to reach a new post-Soviet high of 10.50 million barrels per day (bpd), compared with 10.46 million bpd in October, the previous record, Energy Ministry data showed.

Daily: European power hits fresh 32-month lows

Brent and U.S. crude oil futures rose on Thursday, backed by optimism that U.S. lawmakers will reach a deal to avert a budget crisis and by intensifying tensions in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Brent crude oil futures climbed $1.25 to settle at $110.76 a barrel, while U.S. crude oil prices climbed $1.58 to settle at $88.07 a barrel on Thursday.

China to reach 42 GW of nuclear power capacity

Zhang Huazhu, the chairman of China Nuclear Energy Association, announced that China will account for 10%, which will correspond to about 42 GW, of the world's installed nuclear capacity, with 41 operating nuclear power plants , by 2015.
