Brent crude rose for seven straight sessions during week 38 on hopes for stronger demand after the Federal Reserve launched a new economic stimulus program. Crude futures prices are up about 2% this month after surging 9% in August and 7% in July, on revived geopolitical tensions and maintenance in North Sea crude oil production in September.

RWE npower has announced that the two power stations in Oxfordshire and Hampshire which are 42 years old will be closed soon, as the EU rules required reducing greenhouse gasses emissions. The closures will occur at the end of March 2013, when the power stations will have exhausted their permitted hours of operation before they have to shut down, the energy company said.

Speaking at the opening of an environmental conference in Paris, the French President François Hollande announced he has rejected several applications to begin extracting natural gas and oil from shale using hydraulic fracking practice, which uses a high-pressure mixture of sand, water and chemicals to extract natural gas trapped in rocks.
