Spain intends to impose a green tax on natural gas

Spain government announced its intention to introduce a green tax on natural gas to help plug its 24 billion euro financial deficit which built up by years of forcing utilities to sell power under cost. The tax will regard only natural gas while gasoline and other motor fuels will be exempt according to Europa Press.

Nabucco project obtains Hungarian permit

Hungary is now the first country to successfully finish the permitting process for the Nabucco project. The Nabucco pipeline will cross 384 km of Hungarian territory and has received the last environmental permit it needs to begin construction in the eastern European country. According to Managing Director of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International GmbH, Reinhard Mitschek, this is an important step forward for the project.

Daily: UK gas prices down on weak demand

Brent crude declined below 114 dollars per barrel on Wednesday and despite a supply disruption, hopes that the central bank will intervene to encourage the global economy kept the prices near three-month highs. Brent crude slipped 10 cents to $113.93 per barrel by 10:53 GMT, while U.S. crude traded down 13 cents to $93.30.

China Cut 2012 Coal Production Target to 3.6 billion tonnes

According to the National Development and Reform Commission, China, the world's top coal producer and consumer, sets coal output targets for 2012 at top three producing regions at 3.65 billion tons, down as much as 7 percent in comparison to 2011. The cuts are partially intended to help stabilize domestic coal prices as demand has fallen sharply due to the slowing economy.
