IEA: Renewable power will grow by 40% in next 5 years

According to a new report released by the International Energy Association (IEA), solar, wind, hydropower and other renewable sources will boost to more than 40%, to about 6,400 TWh, and the emerging markets will become the main driver of the increase in renewable power capacity over the next five years.

Norway’s oil strike

About 700 Norwegian offshore oil and gas sector workers were to continue their strike, after a second round of talks with employers failed last Wednesday. The strike has shut down five oil and gas fields on the Norwegian continental shelf and has already cut Norway's oil production by around 13 percent and gas output by 4 percent.

A new wind energy record in Spain

The wind turbine built in April 2009, in Zaragoza hit a new record for energy output on July 1st. The turbine generated 107,82 MWh of electricity and the previous record was set by the same turbine in March.
