Daily – U.S. oil up for the first time in four sessions

U.S. crude oil futures increased for the first time in four sessions on Tuesday on positive New York State manufacturing data, upbeat German investment sentiment and prospects for pro-growth monetary policies in China in the wake of weak economic increase during last quarter. NYMEX crude for February delivery traded at 100.71 dollars a barrel, up 2.01 dollars after a trading range between 98.60 and 101.01 dollars.

Eni discovers huge amount of natural gas in one of the poorest nations

The Italian energy major Eni and Anadarko Petroleum Corp. have discovered a big reserve of natural gas in one of the world’s poorest regions in the Indian Ocean, near the coast of Mozambique. The deposit, called Mambo, may contain about 20 trillion cubic feet of gas.

ICE Brent crude increased 1 dollar on Monday on fears over supply disruptions after Iran warned Gulf Arab neighbors of consequences if they increased oil production to replace Iranian oil industry facing international sanctions. By 07:22 GMT, ICE Brent crude for February delivery traded at 111.44 dollars a barrel, up 1 dollar.

Shanghai invests in clean energy

According to the city government, a total investment of CNY18 billion (or €2.2 billion) may be required by 2015 to increase Shanghai’s capacity of clean energy, mainly wind power. The expenses will play a crucial role in Shanghai’s target of having 1% of its primary use from non-fossil fuels that are locally developed and creating a local new energy industry. The target excludes solar heating.
