UK to get 90% of its power from renewables by 2030

According to a recently released report by WWF-UK, Positive Energy, 60-90% of the UK’s electricity could be satisfied by sustainable sources by 2030, while the rest will be supplied through an international supergrid and gas power stations. All the six scenarios developed by GL Garrad Hassan, the world’s leading renewable energy consultancy, aim to largely decarbonise the power sector without resorting to either coal-fired power stations or nuclear power ones.

Royal Dutch Shell doubles its profit on higher oil prices

The British energy major, Shell reported that its net profits doubled to $7.03 billion in the third quarter from $3.5 billion a year earlier due to higher oil prices, soared oil demand and stronger refining margins.

Daily – oil down on increase in U.S. domestic stockpiles

U.S. and Brent crude oil futures traded down on Wednesday on released data that indicates an increase in U.S. crude stockpiles and worries over Europe’s ability to agree on a plan for coming out of the debt crisis. U.S. crude oil futures for December delivery traded at 90.74 dollars a barrel, down 2.43 dollars, while ICE Brent crude for December delivery settled at 108.91 dollars a barrel, down 2.01 dollars.

Largest solar plant to be built in Ukraine

One of the largest solar power plants will be built in Southern Ukraine, in Okhotnykovo, Crimea that will produce annually 100,000 MWh of electricity. It will be the fourth most powerful solar park following Canadian Sarnia, Italian Montalto di Castro and German Finsterwalder.
