Crude oil prices declined about 1 percent on Friday as investors took some profits after a good week in a context of persistent questions about the attitude of OPEC and Russia. Brent crude lost 58 cents, or 1.1 percent, to settle at $51.93 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude declined 63 cents, or 1.3 percent, to close at $49.81.

A new study from Carbon Brief reports that the UK has produced more energy from solar panels than from coal-fired power plants in the past six months. The country has generated 6,964 GWh of electricity from solar cells, while electricity generated from coal attained at 6,342 GWh, with solar registering a 10% increase. According to a new analysis, solar panels produced 5.2 per cent of the UK’s electricity demand in the period from April to September, while coal accounted for merely 4.7 per cent of the electricity generated.

The EU Parliament has endorsed the ratification of the Paris Agreement. During the vote at the beginning of the week, a total of 610 members voted in favor, against 38 who said no to the authorization and 31 abstentions.
