Scotland’s renewable electricity production has reached record-high levels
According to the figures published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change( DECC), last year, renewables met a record-breaking 40.3% of gross electricity consumption, increasing in comparison to 36.3% in 2011 and 24.1% in 2010, confirming the Scottish Government believes that it is on course for half of electricity use to come from renewable sources by 2015, an interim target ahead of the goal of having the sector generate the equivalent of 100% of the country's electricity needs by 2020.

Spanish Gamesa to provide 50MW wind turbines in India
Spanish wind turbine manufacturer Gamesa Corporacion Tecnologica has been awarded a contract from Green Infra to provide wind turbines amounting 50 MW in India.

RWE won’t extend contracts with two coal-fired power plants
Yearly, this year, RWE announced it intends to mothball or to shutdown some of its gas and coal-fired power stations because of an increase in renewable energy. The company said a boom in solar energy meant many of its power stations were no longer profitable. A RWE spokesman said that a total of 3,100 megawatts of generating capacity will be taken off line, representing about 6% of RWE's total capacity.

What is the future of coal?
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, coal production is predicted to increase by 2.5% in 2014 or 1,033 million short tons more, while coal consumption is expected to continue to grow rapidly in emerging markets, with China alone commissioning about 600 GW of new coal-fired generating units by 2030.
