Emissions of carbon dioxide in the United States are declining; meanwhile coal and shale gas exports are increasing sharply causing a further darkening of skies over Europe and Asia. According to figures showed by EIA, US coal exports reached a record of more than 115 million tons in 2012, more than double if compared to 2009 figures, and a 17% increase over the previous year.

Brent crude hiked late on Tuesday and settled over than $1 above $109 a barrel, following a surge of U.S. crude to a five-week high above $96 a barrel, pushed up by stronger manufacturing and housing data in the Unites States. Meanwhile, U.S. crude settled up $1.53 at $96.34 a barrel, its highest closing price level since February 19. Brent's premium to U.S. crude narrowed to as little as $12.52 a barrel at one point, the smallest in eight months.
