German coalition to reform the renewable energy law in 2014
German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservatives and the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) concluded a coalition deal envisaging curbing the growth of renewables and reforming the current controversial renewable support scheme in order to limit the increase of electricity bills to consumers by next summer, giving big utilities more time to adapt their business models.

UK: RWE has stopped development on the Atlantic Array offshore wind project
RWE, one of the big six energy companies in the UK, has announced the cancellation of one of the world’s largest offshore wind farms due to political rows and policy uncertainty. The wind farm in the Bristol Channel Zone would have provided clean energy for almost 1 million hoseholds and provided thousands of jobs in the construction phase.

Solar Energy: France to build an Institute for Excellence in Carbon-free Energy
French energy giants Total and EDF, alongside their public and private organizations have unified their efforts to create a French solar photovoltaic (PV) research and development (R&D) center near Paris, which will receive EUR 18.5 million (USD 25.5 million) in funding from the French National Research Agency (ANR).
