The European Union's decision on the route and volume of natural gas flow through Russia's new pipeline infrastructure, namely the Nord Stream 2 and TurkStream pipelines, remains critical to meeting Europe's requirement for liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to an expert at Wood Mackenzie late on Tuesday.

Italian natural gas imports from Switzerland stepped up post maintenance on the back of stronger demand from power generators, according to S&P Global Platts Analytics data. LNG regasification edged higher too, while flows from Austria were capped by planned maintenance, the data show.

Oil prices regained momentum on Thursday, after having declined a day earlier because of high crude inventories, but predictions of lower demand kept prices under control. Brent crude closed 1% higher at $71.43 a barrel, posting a 1% loss for the week. Meanwhile, WTI crude rose 0.7% to $65.46 a barrel, slumping by 2% week-on-week.
