U.S.: Oil production surpassed imports for the first time in nearly 20 years
According to federal officials, in October, the U.S. extracted more oil than imported, being an important highlight for a nation which tries to reduce reliance on imported foreign oil. Helped mainly by production from shale reserves and a consumption which remained relatively flat, domestic output hit 7.7 million barrels a day last month, against 7.6 million of imports, a 24-year high.

Ukraine and Chevron to collaborate in developing shale gas
Ukraine's government has approved on Tuesday a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) with Chevron Corp. to explore and develop shale-gas deposits in the Lviv region. The objective is to reduce reliance on Russian gas as they thought that the price they pay for Russian gas is too high. The PSA would be signed on November 5 on the sidelines of an international economic forum in Kyiv.

Sweden prefers renewables to nuclear
Recently Sweden's energy minister, Anna-Karin Hatt, has announced that the government will not subsidize new nuclear power plants, favoring renewable investments. Electricity production in Sweden is dominated by nuclear power and renewables, which currently make about equal contributions to energy production- about 40%.
