According to the BP Energy Outlook 2035, global energy consumption is likely to rise 41 per cent in the period from 2012 to 2035, a considerable decrease if compared to 55 per cent over the last 23 years and 30% over the last ten. 95% of that growth in demand is expected to come from the emerging economies as China and India, while energy consumption in the developed economies of North America, Europe and Asia is projected to register a very slow growth.

Asia's main purchasers of Iranian crude oil have reduced imports by about 15 per cent in 2013, but imports may augment in coming months, on the rise of turmoil in Africa which menaces to tighten global oil supplies. Tough U.S. and EU sanctions have slashed exports from the OPEC member by more than half to about 1 million barrels per day (bpd).

In Italy the wind capacity installed has registered a great success due to government incentives offered to the sector, achieving the record value of 8,144 MW in 2012, and positioning itself 6th below countries as China, US, Germany, Spain and India. According to the TSO, total wind capacity could reach 9,600 MW by the end of this year.
