The EU proposed on Thursday its first law to regulate safety in offshore oil and gas drilling which aims to ensure that world's highest safety, health and environmental standards are implemented across the EU, in order to prevent any repeat of BP's catastrophic Gulf of Mexico spill.

It is official: Ukraine signed a major shale drilling deal with Shell
Ukraine and the world oil giant Royal Dutch Shell signed on January 24 a $10 billion shale gas production sharing agreement aimed at helping the ex-Soviet country to reduce its dependence on Russia.

Turkey beats Norway as Europe’s largest oil producer
Turkey has surpassed Norway as the largest oil producer of Europe, increasing the number of its drilling rigs to 34 rigs in comparison to 26 at the end of last year.

UK to withdraw the ban on shale- gas exploration
Ed Davey, Energy Secretary, has announced that exploration works could now continue in the county, allowing Cuadrilla Resources Ltd. to resume operations in Lancashire, which was halted in 2011 when the test-drilling caused two minor earthquakes in northwest England.

RWE Dea starts the development drilling at Clipper South in UK
RWE Dea's subsidiary in the United Kingdom has announced the delivery of its first gas from its Clipper South field in the UK North Sea. The field is operated by RWE Dea (50% interest) and Fairfield Energy is also a partner in the field (25% interest).
