Slovakia's new Mochovce 3 reactor is slated to start up and generate electricity this year with unit 4 following in 2023, according to an energy security report released by the Ministry of Economy. Once it starts up, Mochovce 3 will immediately tip Slovakia's energy balance back to an export footing.

Pilot project to extract lithium at Bruchsal geothermal plant, Germany

Lithium for 20,000 car batteries is to be extracted in Bruchsal, according to the goal of the project partners energy utility EnBW and Karlsruhe Institute of Technology KIT , as reported by local news station SWR. The prototype is scheduled to go into operation at the Bruchsal site at the end of the year. Then it should be checked whether what has already been successfully tested in the laboratory also works in practice. The prototype should run for over a year. We previously reported on the plans.

Major developed countries cut emissions by just 3.7 per cent in the pre-2020 climate regime

A key group of major developed countries including all G7 countries collectively saw a mere 3.7 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2019 over 1990 levels, according to a study by the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW).

EU electricity demand rebounds without more emissions

Electricity demand in the European Union has returned to pre-pandemic levels without a corresponding rise in emissions, according to a report published Wednesday by an energy think tank. An analysis of data from grid operators showed that electricity demand in the EU during the first half of 2021 almost matched the demand in the same six-month period two years earlier, the report by Ember said.

U.S., Germany to vow action on Russia in Nord Stream 2 deal

The United States and Germany will take action against Russia if it uses the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to harm Ukraine or other Eastern European countries, according to two sources familiar with a bilateral agreement expected on Wednesday.
