Crude oil prices ended the Monday’s trade higher as Saudi Arabia's commitments to cutting production offset a report forecasting U.S. output would again increase this year. Benchmark Brent crude oil for March delivery rose by 41 cents a barrel, or 0.7 percent, to end at $55.86 and U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude added 27 cents, or 0.5 percent, to settle at $52.64 a barrel.

Crude oil prices were little changed on Friday in a calm trade ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday week. However, the crude oil contracts posted small gains, as the market strived to observe how OPEC manages its planned output cuts with Libya expecting to boost production. Brent futures rose by 11 cents, or 0.2 percent, to settle at $55.16 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude added seven cents, or 0.1 percent, to end at $53.02, its highest close since July 2015.

Crude oil price ended higher on Friday, closing out a bullish week for crude oil, spurred by growing expectations that OPEC will find a solution to limit production at the end of the month. Brent crude rose by 37 cents, or 0.8 percent, to settle at $46.86 per barrel, posting its first weekly increase in five weeks. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 27 cents, or 0.6 percent, for the day, to close at $45.69 a barrel. It posted its first weekly increase in four weeks. For the week, Brent and U.S. crude both rose roughly 5 percent.
