According the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), the wind developers installed wind turbines with capacity of 6,810 megawatts in the U.S. last year, up 31 % compared to 2010. In the four quarter domestic wind installations hit 3,444 megawatts, surpassing the first three quarters combined, led by California, Illinois and Ohio, the fastest-growing state.

The first pilot license, for a 1 MW tidal energy project to be developed in the East Channel of New York’s East River, was issued by Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The project was drafted by New York-based Verdant Power Inc. and will be built in three phases by installing up to 30 commercial class turbines with five fixed generator units to capture energy from tidal flow.

The US industrial giant GE, announced that lower prices for wind turbines dragged on company’s profits in 2011. According to GE chief financial officer, Keith Sherin, the company expects to ship over 3000 wind turbines in 2012, comparing to 1956 in 2011.

Vestas, the world's largest wind turbine manufacturer based in Denmark, has recently announced its plans to slash 2335 jobs as part of a restructuration and cost reduction program. Over half of the jobs being cut will be in Denmark, where the company is based.

Gamesa projects to open a wind turbine blade factory in India which will produce turbines of G5X- 850kW and G9X-2.0 MW. The factory will primarily supply India’s northern states, including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The company invested 25 million euros to commission the wind turbine blade facility.
