The Ministry of Energy announced on June, 14 in a press release that it led negotiations with an US company concerning the extraction of natural gas from its shale rock layers and starting production of shale gas in Lithuania. The Russian government decided to keep the mineral extraction tax on the independent gas producers unchanged in 2012, Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said on Wednesday. According to him, the increase of the mineral extraction tax will affect the gas monopoly, Gazprom.
