Poland: a coal-fired unit of about $1 billion to be built by Hitachi-led consortium

Hitachi-led consortium won a contract of about 3.25 billion zlotys ($1 billion dollars) from Poland’s main utility group PGE to build a coal-fired unit of a capacity of 430-450 MW, according to a member of the conglomerate. The unit is likely to be constructed at PGE’s Turow plant in south-eastern Poland.

Italy: shutdown of 2 Vado Ligure coal units

Tirreno Power, an Italian electricity generation company, owned 50% by France’s GDF Suez, has received an order from an Italian judge to shutdown two coal-fired units at its Vado Ligure plant because of ecological concerns, as stated by a spokesman for the Italian firm.

U.S. oil futures settled higher on Wednesday following the publication of government data indicating an unexpected low increase in crude stockpiles and one more significant drawdown at the American benchmark's delivery hub, at Cushing, Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Brent prices were flat on concerns over slower growth in China, as its debt has reached record levels.
