France envisages a further growth in its offshore wind energy

TThe French government has launched on Monday the first round of a €10 billion offshore wind energy tender seeking developers to build projects off the country's coastlines. The project is aimed to increase the country’s share of renewable energy and to reduce its dependence on nuclear power, following the recent considerations of the French government to phase out its nuclear plants by 2040.

China to boost its wind power industry to 30 GW by 2020

China plans to increase its installed offshore wind power capacity to 5 GW by 2015 and to 30 GW by 2020, according to news agency Xinhua, citing National Energy Administration. China seeks to complete a public tender for the second half of the 2012, which will take place in the first half of 2012.

Fall in British offshore wind energy costs over the next decade

A recently released report by Britain’s largest wind and marine energy trade association shows a drop in prices for electricity generated from offshore wind power utilities. The whole-life cost of wind energy in UK is expected to be driven down by more than 15% between 2011 and 2022, while under auspicious conditions, the decrease in costs would reach as much as 33%.

Russian government seeks offshore oil spill funds

The Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin proposed on Wednesday a bill that would require the Russian companies engaged in the exploration of crude seeking to obtain offshore extraction licenses, to set apart financial reserves which could be used in case of an eventual oil spill.
