Daily: British gas prices down on an oversupplied system

The price of Brent crude oil decreased on Thursday following reports that the UK House of Commons voted to withhold from military action in Syria. Brent crude for October delivery plunged to 114.94 dollars per barrel, down 1.67 dollars, before improving to 116 dollars by 13:50 GMT. U.S. crude oil prices for October fell 1.50 dollars to 108.60 dollars per barrel.

The Czech government to end solar subsidies from 2014

The Czech Republic’s lower house of Parliament has voted on Friday to end subsidies for the renewable energy industry and to extend a tax on existing PV installations, starting from January next year, having the objective to reduce subsidies and to cut increasing power prices.

Daily: EU carbon allowances at highest level since supply vote

Brent crude rose on Tuesday as U.S. gasoline prices jumped to four-month highs following refinery problems during summer driving season and higher prices for ethanol credits. Meanwhile, Brent crude for August delivery edged up 31 cents to settle at $109.40 a barrel, the highest settlement since April 2. In the same time, U.S. crude oil settled down 32 cents at $106.00 a barrel, while the front month contract has been trading at or above 70 since July 5.

Daily: European spot power prices up ahead of the EU Parliament vote

Oil futures settled above $101 a barrel Wednesday, following intensification of turmoil in Egypt and worries about supply disruptions in the Middle East after a U.S. report showed a major drop in last week’s crude supplies. Brent crude settled higher on Wednesday increasing $1.76 to $105.76, its highest level since June 19. U.S. crude futures for August ended at $101.24 a barrel on the NYMEX, up 1.7%.
