France has started sending natural gas to Germany as part of its pledge to ensure EU energy solidarity as Russia reduces exports after its invasion of Ukraine, the French network operator said Thursday.

Gas cap could slash German power price massive 72%
The introduction of a European gas price cap could slash the German wholesale power price by up to a whopping EUR 309, or 72%, from its current level next winter, an analyst said on Thursday. However, it would still not be enough to see prices revert to levels they were before Russia’s war in Ukraine, Ryan Alexander, research lead at Aurora Energy Research, told Montel’s Austrian Energy Day.

Daily (14.10.2022): High LNG and Norwegian flows weighed on British near-term gas prices
Oil prices rose on Thursday amid reduced levels of diesel inventories ahead of winter. Moreover, a leak was discovered in the Druzhba pipeline that delivers oil from Russia to Europe. As a result, Brent crude settled 2.3% higher at $94.57 a barrel. At the same time, WTI crude gained 2.1% at $89.11 a barrel.

EU countries eye scrapping 45% renewables target
EU countries are considering watering down the European Commission’s plan to ditch Russian fossil fuels, known as REPowerEU, including scrapping a proposed 45% renewable energy target for 2030, according to a document seen by EURACTIV.
