Biggest solar park in UK to be built in North Wales

The Compton Group, a green energy developer is aiming to build the UK’s largest solar park in North Wales. The project is likely to see something like 180,000 panels erected over 220 acres on land near Deeside Industrial Park and would create enough green electricity from the sun to power about 11,000 households. The development could create more than 100 jobs during the construction phase and a small number of positions once ready.

Coal is still the dominant fuel in Germany’s energy mix

According to a study made by German Fraunhofer Institute, electricity generated from Germany's coal-fired power plants contributed more than 50% to the nation's electricity demand as production from natural gas and wind dropped significantly. Germany's coal-fired power stations registered a 5.4% increase in production in the first three quarters of this year, rising to 189.4 terawatt hours (TWh).

Daily: Crude oil sinks on both sides of Atlantic on U.S. budget standoff

Crude oil prices dropped on the both sides of Atlantic on Wednesday as the biggest weekly increase of U.S. crude stockpiles amplified the market’s concerns that Washington’s budget standoff would slash demand in the United States. Meanwhile, Brent crude slipped $1.10 to settle at $109.06 per barrel, after settling higher on Tuesday for a third consecutive session. U.S. oil dropped $1.88 to $101.61 per barrel.
