Daily (08.05.2018): Carbon prices jumped by 4.6% on Monday on long-awaited announcement of EU aviation allowance auctions

Oil prices hiked on Monday due to forecasts for higher prices on gasoline and consumer goods. Brent futures rose $1.3, or 1.7%, to end at $76.17 a barrel. WTI crude surged by 1.5% to settle at $70.73 a barrel, for the first time above $70 level since late 2014.

Daily (03.05.2018): European carbon prices declined by 2.4% on Wednesday

Oil prices increased on Wednesday as the U.S. dollar dropped from its peak for the year after the Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate constant. Brent crude was 23 cents, or 0.3%, up at $73.36 a barrel. WTI futures added 1% to end at $67.93 a barrel.

Finland plans to completely phase out coal by 2029

Finland’s environment minister declared the country would prohibit the use of coal in energy production in 2029. The Finnish government is also looking for a large-scale subsidy programme that will reward energy companies for abandoning fossil fuel before the expected time frame, as stated by EURACTIV.
