Crude oil futures posted little changes on Tuesday as the potential for expanded lockdown measures countered news about the beginning of vaccination programs across Western economies this week and EIA’s forecast of higher oil prices in 2021. Hence, Brent crude added 0.1% to end rather flat at $48.84 a barrel. Meanwhile, WTI crude settled at $45.60 a barrel, posting a 0.4% loss day-on-day.

EDF has received regulatory approval to start generating low carbon power again from Reactor 3 at Hunterston B power station in Ayrshire, Scotland. This follows a two-year inspection and investment programme. EDF also said the plant will move into the defuelling phase no later than 7 January 2022. This is subject to a further inspection in the spring of 2021 and then regulatory approval for a final six months of operation.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has released the final report from its January 2018 mission to France to review radioactive waste management and decommissioning in the country. The review team said it had been "impressed with the nature and implementation of the French national programme".

In an effort to alleviate the concequences of the recent oil price plunge, French oil major Total has revealed its plan to reduce the capex for 2020 by more than $3 billion and save about $800 million in operating costs compared to 2019. Total will also suspend its buyback program.
